Communications

Produced three, daily, live, television newscasts at an ABC news affiliate in Central Washington including the first all-Spanish, local newscast in the Pacific Northwest. Researched, wrote, and edited daily news stories as a reporter for the Associated Press, Mexico City bureau. Developed media campaigns for client accounts in Latin America and the US as a public relations account manager at Edelman Mexico City. Directed all external communications for the Native American Youth and Family Center. Collaborated closely with communication consultants, contractors, and staff to develop cohesive, organizational communications strategies using digital, web, print, and social media tools, among others, often highlighting students and families as key messengers.

Program Management

Managed and developed educational programming for underrepresented students (1st - post-secondary education), including after-school and summer programs, and student- and family-centered case management. Supported and trained staff providing direct services to youth and families in developing new programs in collaboration with students, families, and community partners. Advocated at the district, city, county, and state level for education funding, youth-focused policies, and resource allocation to culturally specific services.

Writing

Extensive experience writing small and large family and private foundation grants. Secured millions of dollars in public contracts including city, county, state, and federal grant funds. Managed grant writing teams, coordinated timelines, schedules, and processes from concept to submission. Clearly articulated community problems and community-driven solutions to corporate, public, and philanthropic stakeholders and leaders. Worked with 100-plus employees to write grants, print and electronic newsletters, annual reports, client success stories, web and blog content, press releases, event scripts and speeches, donor appeal letters, and any messaging necessary.
